THE RYE UNDER 13’s
NEWSLETTER - updated 22nd March 2008
After last weeks disapointing no show by Burgess Hill, which goes down as a win to Rye, this week the boys made up for their frustration by beating Uckfield with an impressive 17- 8 win. With training sessions regularly being attended by more than 16 players on wednesdays and sundays, the committment is now starting to pay off. It was a good performance with lots of positive passages of play, and some areas to be worked on at training.
Training sessions are becoming more focused on fitness as well as skills and this is beginning to show. Although this is our first season playing on a full pitch, it takes time to adjust to the increased fitness required to compete for a full 50 mins of play. Myself and Jamie have spoken to the boys about diet and dehydration before training and matches. In an ideal world all players should eat a balanced meal at least 2 hours before any sport, and taking in at least 1 ltr of water.
We as a club can only give advice on diet etc, it really is down to the parents and players to make a difference. Training sessions will be including more fitness routines in between our normal rugby drills and skills.
Rugby players not just run around and pass a ball, they are top atheletes, who need to be able to run, tackle, pass and support each other.
Many thanks Duncan
